Welcome to Health Science
I am Jody Smith and I have been teaching Health Science for over 16 years and I also teach Project Lead the Way Medical Interventions. Prior to teaching I worked at an acute care facility in Virginia for over 23 years. While there I worked in Post Anesthesia Care, Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Lab and Cardiology, and Infection Control and Employee Health to name a few. I also was an instructor for Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
I have Bachelor of Science in Nursing and am also a National Board Certified Teacher. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and sharing my real life experiences with students. I challenge my students to perform to the best of their ability and to understand that their education will never stop, but is an ongoing life time process. As future health care providers it is important that students develop and utilize critical thinking skills, as health care is a challenge each and every day. It is wonderful when you see a student get a smile on their face and they tell you that now they get it. I teach to meet the various learning styles of my students.
I have twin boys. One is a resident in internal medicine where he specializes in Pulmonary Critical Care and will be chief resident his 5th year. My other son is an architect in Arlington, Virginia.
I love my job and teaching and I hope my love of health care rubs off on my students because we need lots of future health care providers.
