Health Science 3 Human Structure and Function

Health Science 3 focuses on the human body.  Students will gain knowledge of all human body systems and how they work (Anatomy & Physiology).  This course will emphasize the study of disease, prevention and treatment (Pathophysiology).    Medical Terminology is also incorporated throughout the course and designed to develop in the students a working knowledge of the language of medicine.

Students acquire word-building skills by learning prefixes, suffixes, roots, and abbreviations.     Utilizing a body systems approach, the student will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to structure and function, pathology, diagnosis, clinical procedures, and pharmacology.  Common abbreviations applicable to each system will be interpreted.    Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology enhances a student’s ability to successfully secure employment or pursue advanced education in health science.
