Barbering

The Barbering program prepares individuals to shave and trim facial/neck hair and beards, cut and dress hair, fit hairpieces, give facial and scalp massages, apply cosmetic treatments, and to prepare for licensure as professional barbers at various levels. Instruction includes facial shaving, beard and mustache shaping and trimming, shampooing, hair cutting, hairstyles and styling art, facial treatments and massage, chemical applications, hair and scalp anatomy and physiology, hairpiece and toupee fitting, equipment operation, health and safety, customer service, and shop business practices.  

This is a three-year program beginning in the 10th grade. Students that are accepted into this program must complete the entire three years. According to State Board regulations, only a limited number of students may be enrolled. To receive their state license, students must pass the state licensing exams and complete the State Board required 1,540 hours. These exams include both theory and practical applications, which are very rigorous.
