Anderson I & II Career and Technology Center

As we embark on the 2022-2023 academic year, I'm thrilled to begin my twenty-first year at ACTC. Teaching is my second career, having spent ten years in business and industry before making the transition.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that students learn best through hands-on experiences. As such, I love designing immersive, real-world learning opportunities that engage and motivate students to develop in-demand business and marketing skills. All of my classes are project-based, and I place a strong emphasis on the cultivation of both hard and soft skills needed for success in college and careers. Students take an active role in their learning and demonstrate their mastery of course competencies through simulations, presentations, performance tasks, and projects, instead of relying solely on traditional tests. I also strive to give students a voice and choice in their projects whenever possible. Generally, I do not assign homework, and final exams are replaced by printed or digital portfolios. My goal is for students to feel challenged, supported, valued, respected, and connected in my classes.

Regarding my academic background, I hold both a bachelor's degree (1992) and a master's degree (1994) in business from Clemson University, as well as a master's degree in education (2009) from Furman University. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Learning Technology from Anderson University. My passion for lifelong learning is something that I hope to inspire in my students, as well.
